The internet is a vast wealth of free information available to anyone who takes the time to search for it.  Some resources you can easily find include e-books and guides at no cost that deal with every detail of planning a wedding.  There are also spreadsheets and checklists you can use to ensure no detail goes unnoticed.  It is as simple as typing the right keyword, such as "wedding planning," into the search engine of your choice. 

That Is What Friends Are For 

Friends are people you can call on to help you out in a pinch.  You can always ask your friends for planning help but be sure the friends you ask have tastes similar to yours and are of course, reliable and not domineering; this is your wedding after all.  So gather up a few of your closest friends and approach your wedding planning like a team.   

Hold an initial meeting to go over general details and the overall theme.  As the planning process continues, you should have several more meetings to include or veto ideas.  Not only will doing this help you out tremendously, but also make you and your friends grow closer to each other.  The best aspect of this approach is that it will cost you absolutely nothing because good friends will not insist on charging you anything for their help.   

Glean Inspiration 

As you may well know, there are weddings that are memorable and elegant and others that are disastrous and dreadful.  For example, a pleasant wedding does not include mishaps like a late groom showing up at the alter suffering from a hangover, which may mean you and your groom-to-be may need to come to an bachelor party understanding.   

Take a moment to remember weddings you have attended in the past and pinpoint what you liked and what you did not.  Did you like the music, the flowers, the cake?  If you are concerned that other people will believe you have snatched their ideas, be sure to tell them in advance about your plans.  Chances are these people will feel like you are paying them a compliment. 

Consider Each Idea Carefully 

Although your wedding should be infused with your tastes and personality, sometimes personal choices that seem like a good idea can ultimately become problematic.  Some ideas that seem like fantastic ones do not always turn out to be that way if you do not think about them long and hard beforehand.  For example, even though a horse and carriage adds a whimsical touch to a wedding, you should consider the byproduct of the horse--the smell or worse.  Be sure to think about each idea carefully and take into acount your planning team's point of view.
